I love catching up with my favorite programs and series. A few examples of my favorites are; Being Mary-Jane (which is back for season 4 by the way!!), Blackish (who doesn’t love Bow?) and This is Us. However, I find that with crafting, studying and housework, I barely get enough time to watch my episodes undisturbed. I have therefore learned the art of multitasking. I watch the episodes while doing other activities, i.e, cooking, dressing, putting my make up on. One sad thing about that though, I can never find a stable place to place my phone and watch while I move around, especially in the kitchen. (as evidenced by my cracked screen). Being a DIY minded girl, I got to the internet to look for ways to solve this small problem of mine without spending a lot, and I found not one, but three ways to make a phone stand to hold my phone at an angle while I multitask. Also, it cost me nothing! As in 0 (zero) shillings!
Lets get to it;
For this 1st one,
What you’ll need:
2 Empty Toilet Rolls- Foil paper and Cling foil rolls too will work
Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue sticks – or any type of adhesive you have, the glue gun will just help speed things up
Pair or Scissors and Paper Knife- the cling foil rolls are a bit hard to cut through with a pair of scissors, but if yours are strong enough, well and good
Tailor’s chalk- or anything you can use to mark your fabric with
Fabric of your choice- I used a piece of denim from a previous project
Denim Tissue Roll Phone Stand
I got this idea from Innova Crafts on Youtube and it’s pretty easy to make. Start by cutting one of the toilet rolls into 2 complete halves. Then make a cut on the other roll such that it will divide the roll but not separate the two pieces
Fix one half of the completely cut roll into the slit you made on the other roll and hot glue the pieces together to help them stay in place.
Cover the whole thing in fabric and that’s basically it! Told you it was easy:)
This holds your phone in a landscape position and it’s ideal for when you want to watch something, as opposed to listening. It’s pretty stable too and you can place it on any flat surface without fear of dropping your phone.
What you’ll need;
A4 paper- or any decorative paper you may have. You could even use fabric or newspaper, it’s up to you.
Glue stick- if you end up using paper. You could get this at any stationery store or supermarket
Pair of Scissors
Permanent marker (Optional)
Decorated Tissue Paper Roll Phone Stand
Use the permanent marker to draw a quick design so that it doesn’t look so plain and dull. You could totally leave it like that or use decorative paper.
Glue the paper to the roll, and cut out the excess. Glue stick is less messier where papers are involved. Wait for the glue to dry a bit ( 5 minutes) then fold the now decorated roll into half and cut out a piece of the top part as pictured
Make small cuts as pictured and fold inwards to make little flaps. This is where the phone will rest and it will help a great deal with stability
That is it! You guys, this is so easy!
This stand is quite stable, just not as the one above. It will get the job done. All you have to do is place ths stand on a really flat surface(like a non-shaky table) where it will not be moved. It also holds the phone in a landscape position and is ideal for watching your episodes.
This third one doubles up as a mini speaker and is my ultimate fave!
What you’ll need
Fabric – again, totally your choice
Empty toilet roll- or foil paper roll- I used half of a foil paper roll cause they’re abit “stronger” than normal toilet paper roll, but both work equally well
Pair of scissors and/or paper knife
Hot Glue Gun- or any adhesive
Push pins (pictured)- Ive always had mine but you could get these at any stationery store or supermarket
Fabric Covered Toilet Roll Phone Stand
Measure the width of your phone against the roll and add a bit more allowance, then cut out what you measured.
Cover the whole thing in fabric (or paper) and remember to cut the hole you left in step one
Stick some pins (4 are enough) on the bottom of the stand and you’re done! The pins help with stability, without them the roll will just roll over, lol. You could use anything ( like tiny rocks) , as long as it will help the stand stay in place.
This stand holds your phone in a portrait form and the reason I love it so much is because as I said, it doubles up as a really cool speaker! I don’t mean your Beats by Dre, no, but it helps a great deal with the volume of the phone.
So there you have it:) Three ways to hold your phone and all of them are recycled! What a gift to the earth! I’ve found that these one don’t hold something as heavy as a tablet, so for those, y’all are just going to come back here soon for another post.
Have fun making these. I’d love to hear your ideas on other ways you could make a phone stand, if you have any. Also, in case you make any of these, be sure to share pics with me, it will totally make my day.
Have a great weekend loves:)
