I enjoy bongo flava and Alikiba, Diamond and Harmonize are my current fave artists of the same. There was this time I was watching one of Alikiba’s music video -Aje and this is how it starts. Notice the beanie he’s wearing?
I’m pro headgear and I don’t discriminate. From baseball caps to bowler hats and beanies, I will wear anything that’s termed as headgear. So I immediately turned to google looking for “a beanie with a snap-back” and I found that it was actually a thing. A really cool thing!
Sadly, not available in Kenya, that’s when I took matters into my own hands, literally, cause I hand stitched the whole thing.
What you need;
Old snap-back- I got mine from a thrift market for Ksh. 50. It doesn’t matter the shape of the cap, as long as the snap place is in good shape.
Beanie hat in any color or shape or size you want. Totally depends on your preference.
Tailor pins or something your folds and stitches in place
Tailor’s chalk or anything to mark your cuts
Pair of scissors
Needle and thread
Snap back beanie;
Start by removing the snap from the old cap. Use scissors or your seam ripper to do this.
Then measure out the part you wanna cut and mark it. You could use an existing cap to help with this. Bear in mind that you’ll fold in the edges so you want to make the cut smaller than you measured to account for the folds
Cut out that part and now its time to fit the snap into the beanie. My beanie hat had two layers and I had to sandwich the snap in between the two layers.
Fold in both the front and back edges and use a simple back stitch to join the two sides. Use a matching thread to hide stitches
This took me an episode on Modern Family to complete, so say 20 minutes!:) Then you’re done. The next and final step is to slay the hell out of your new invention! You could wear it anyhow you want to , I like mine with the snap on the front.
Are you feeling this as much as I am? Let me know in the comments.
